Local ownership takes over Icehouse

Todd Ramsey believes the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse can achieve more of a hometown feel, like one local hockey players and ice skaters used to enjoy at McMillen Ice Arena – just with more modern amenities.

A local ownership group led by Ramsey, who was behind construction of the Icehouse that began more than a decade ago, confirmed that he had closed Tuesday on a purchase to buy back the building that has three sheets of ice.

“We’re just going to get the community back involved. That’s going to be our focus. It needs to be run like Mitzi (Toepfer) ran McMillen (for 45 years), as a fun place to go,” Ramsey said. “I know it has to be a business. It’s a giant investment for us. But it also has to be user friendly for the leagues and those types of things.”
