The first season for the USPHL Fort Wayne Spacemen returned to earth yesterday

Facing the Chicago Cougars in a decisive USPHL playoffs round 2 game three, the Spacemen were eliminated with a 4-1 loss.

The Spacemen scored the first goal of the game early in the second period, with Logan Robins and Jared Fisher assisting on the goal by Toms Barens, but the Cougars came back to tie the game late in the second period, and took the lead less than two minutes later while on the power play.

The Cougars scored their third goal of the contest 6:36 into the third period.  The score would remain 1-3 until late in the game, when the Spacemen, desperate for an offensive spark, pulled their goalie, Michael Heward, for the extra attacker.  Unfortunately the tactic was unsuccessful, as no sooner did Heward reach the bench than  the Cougars scored an empty net goal to make the score 1-4 with 1:13 remaining.

Despite the disappointing outcome of the game, the Fort Wayne Spacemen have a lot to be proud of.  For a first year team to make the splash in the league as they did is not common.  They boast a Hall of Fame Coach in Kaleigh Schrock and a record setting forward in Jared Fisher.

Year two should be a lot of fun.
