The Fort Wayne Spacemen (21-13-5-2) finish the weekend off with a sweep over first place MJDP (29-7-3-2). Saturday night Fort Wayne capitalized on a few fortuitous bounces that resulted in Spacemen goals. These goals came after Darick Louis-Jean skated the length of the ice weaving his way through three Jet defenders, netting the first goal of the night. Luis-Jean notched over 150 games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and wasted no time earning his first goal five minutes in to his USPHL-Premier debut.

Shortly after, Jared Fisher benefited from a miscue from the Jets goalie who inadvertently passed the puck into his own goal. Fisher is currently the all-time leading goal scorer in USPHL-Premier history with 85 goals in 95 games played. Up 2-1 in the second period, Sam Sahr stayed hot, scoring on a pass in the slot from Larry Yellowknee.

Cedrick Lariviere stopped 49 of 51 shots and put the team on his back once again. 

The following night in Fraser, MJDP responded to Friday’s loss by taking a two-goal lead early in the second period. The Spacemen kept their hopes alive by killing off a 5 on 3 penalty and getting key saves from Jordan Belley. Larry Yellowknee made his presence felt again cutting the leading in half with a shot from the top of the circles. Following the goal, the Spacemen converted on the power play with a nifty move from defenseman, Noe Perez. In just a short time with the Spacemen, Perez has tallied 15 points in 12 games.

Down a goal late in the third Spacemen captain Riley Pitchure jammed home the game tying goal forcing overtime. After a hard fought five minutes, with great saves from both goaltenders the game would be decided in a shootout. Six shooters would shoot, but only Charles- Andre Cypihot would score finding the back of the net giving the spacemen their 21st win of the regular season. Goaltender Jordan Belley stood tall once again remaining undefeated for Fort Wayne.

“I’m very proud of our young men. Winning back to back games against a program like Metro is a tall task. The Jet teams are very well coached, discipline and play a hardworking and structured game. We’ve benefited from playing a tough schedule and fighting adversity throughout the season. We have added some great pieces and are heating up at the right time.”

The Spacemen return to action next Wednesday at home vs the Toledo Cherokee.
